First off, I wanted to thank Bookin’ Reviews for having me here. I’m always amazed when I have the opportunity to talk about my passion, which is creating and reading stories.

When I started writing DARK FUTURE over nine years ago, paranormal romance hadn’t taken off, and I was really missing the alpha male in the romances that I was reading. My hero, ConRad Smith, was born out of my desperation to find a gritty, hard-core man who was, of course, tortured. ConRad is the commander of Earth’s last army and is charged with protecting the only portal through space on Dark Planet. In this future world, death is easy and life is cheap. Almost all of the men are soldiers, and what makes things even more interesting, there’s a shortage of women. ConRad is a product of this environment, making him untrusting and callus, but also extremely protective, perfect for the type of hero I wanted to write about.

Of course, the world of DARK FUTURE posed a problem with the type of heroine I wanted to write about. She needed to be independent, but also have her own insecurities and demons to fight. She had to have her own agenda, and saving a future world would not be high on her list of priorities. Thus, Kris Davenport was created. She’s successful in her own right as a medical doctor, but also a bit pampered. Her world is that of Pina Coladas on the beach and designer hand bags. Kris believes giving for the greater good is great in theory, but when the sacrificing hits to close to home, it’s a whole other story.

Kris and ConRad were a challenge to bring together. There were times when I thought I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. Both characters have deep trust issues to overcome and pasts that are riddled with secrets and dark compromises. To me, complicated love stories are the best ones to read and, as it turns out, even more fun to write.

I hope people find Kris and ConRad’s journey to happiness as intriguing as I did to write. Readers, if you like to enter for a chance to win a free copy of my debut novel, DARK FUTURE, just leave a comment letting me know what type of romances you like to read—dark, funny, sweet, or steamy. I look forward to hearing from each of you.

Dark Future
K.C. Klein

Awakened in the middle of the night by a future version of herself, Kris Davenport is given a mission: go forward in time to save the world—and His life. Of course, her future self doesn't tell her who he is, just sends her off a cliff and straight into an alien invasion.

He turns out to be ConRad Smith, the callous, untrusting Commander of Earth’s army and the world’s last defense. There’s only one way to know for sure if this strange woman is an alien spy—slice her throat. Except, he didn’t anticipate the heat he would feel as he interrogates the hot-tempered, warm-blooded woman. For a man whose sole focus has been survival, she's more temptation than he can handle. But a world on the brink of destruction leaves no room for love…and time is running out.

KC Klein is the author of Dark Future, a sexy futuristic time-travel. She became serious about writing three years ago and was as surprised as anyone when her stories took a turn toward dark and snarky. Today, she divides her time between taking care of her family and driving in circles around Arizona, too busy creating stories in her head to pay attention to mere road signs.

It's a pleasure to have you here Ms. Klein!
