PERSONAL SUMMARY:
Determined to keep her head held high, Alexi Jordan leaves her two timing groom at the alter without a second glance. Only she didn't count on the knight in shining armor from her past to whisk her away and show her what she almost missed out on. Now if she could only convince herself not to fall in love with him again while solving the mystery behind who was out to kill her.

SUMMARY:(BLURB TAKEN FROM THE PUBLISHER'S SITE)
Twelve years ago wrong side of the tracks bad boy, Jesse Weldon, was framed for a crime he didn't commit by the blue-blooded Jordan family. Now he's back in Savannah with his highly successful security company to put the Weldon name on the right side of the tracks. Unfortunately, before he can even make a move in that direction, he runs into Alexandria Jordan and ends up making the same mistake he did before. He succumbs to her allure, but this time, he plans on getting her out of his system for good and walking away.

Except for a few wild moments with Jesse at seventeen, Alexi Jordan has followed the life expected of her. But a Wedding Day betrayal from her blue-blooded fiancé has her running from her life and right into the arms of the man she'd never forgotten, Jesse. Yet as she forges a new future for herself amid the scandal of her aborted wedding, Alexi finds herself the target of a twisted killer and both her and Jesse's days are now numbered.

FIRST LINE:
He was hard and smooth all over, Alexandria Jordan thought as her gaze focused on the broadness of the man's chest and the nuances of light and shadow playing upon muscle and flesh.

PLOT:
What a unique way to deliver a story book! I have never read a book that has beautiful photographs that help show the story. While the story is excellent without the photographs, they did add another level of sensuality and connection to the story. Definitely worth all the work and effort that went behind adding all those beautiful photos to the story.
When I stepped into Wild Irish, it was like going home. Being from a southern Irish family, I connected with this story and it's characters instantly. Jennifer Saints has written a story rich with southern flavor and attitude. She didn't miss the fact that being southern is an art! The author took a wild and sensual bad boy, tempted him with a southern princess, and delivered a passionate romance riddled with a mystery that left me wondering who would be out to kill Alexandria Jordan. While the passion was high between Jesse and Alexi, the author also weaved a lot of emotion into the story that showed us who exactly the hero and heroine were. Through the there actions and the people they cared for, I got to 'see' them both from within, making me care for each of them and the ending they would have. I also enjoyed the fantasies lived out between the hero and heroine. They gave the story an sensual touch making me want to continue reading to find out more. While not an erotic read, the author added a spice to the romance that scorched the pages, but with an eloquence that I would love to see in more books.

SETTING:
Wild Irish took place in the hot and humid city of Savannah, Georgia with a couple of short escapes to a small villa in France. The trips were picture perfect might I add!

WRITING:
Given the Ms. Saints has three pseudonyms, I thought I would be reading a book that was much like her other books under her different names. I was pleasantly surprised to find out her writing style was very unique to this book and her pseudonym, Jennifer Saints. Her signature flair for detail never faltered, however she added a wit and charm that made her work stand out among her other books as distinctive. And the use of those southern expressions was pure gold!

CHARACTERS:
Alexandria 'Alexi' Jordan was a character that reminded me of where I came from. A southern lady with a hidden wild streak running down the middle waiting for the perfect bad boy to come along and show her how to let loose and have fun. A very responsible, loving woman, that cared for those around her and one special little girl in particular that held her heart. Through that little girl I got a glimpse of what unselfishness in meant to look like. A lesson lies within Alexi's character and story that I found very touching and motivating.
Alexi's love interest is no less that the perfect gentleman in my eyes. Not that kind of gentleman that won't risk giving a lady a kiss for propriety, no, the kind of gentleman that has enough guts to reach out kiss a lady to true happiness because he knows it will make her smile. That is the kind of gentleman Jesse Weldon is. A man that protects, reaches out even though he knows he shouldn't, and has a heart the size of Texas. And on the flip side, he is like all southern men, straight to the point and stubborn. That stubbornness is what gets him every time he realizes he is falling into something he doesn't believe in - love. It was fun to watch him squirm and struggle against the pull of one Alexi Jordan!

LAST THOUGHTS:
Wild Irish is a beautiful story of love and family with a twisted plot filled with mystery. I enjoyed following both characters through discovering their feelings for one another and through unraveling who was behind all the attacks. I already have book two in my hands, waiting for me to dive in! The Weldon Brothers are going to be one hell of a series to follow.

NOW FOR A SUNDAY FUNNY:
A group of girlfriends is on vacation when they see a 5-story hotel with a sign that reads: “For Women Only.” Since they are without their boyfriends and husbands, they decide to go in.
The bouncer, a very attractive guy, explains to them how it works. “We have 5 floors. Go up floor by floor, and once you find what you are looking for, you can stay there. It’s easy to decide since each floor has a sign telling you what’s inside.”
So they start going up and on the first floor the sign reads: “All the men on this floor are short and plain.” The friends laugh and without hesitation move on to the next floor.
The sign on the second floor reads: “All the men here are short and handsome.” Still, this isn’t good enough, so the friends continue on up.
They reach the third floor and the sign reads: “All the men here are tall and plain.”
They still want to do better, and so, knowing there are still two floors left, they continued on up.
On the fourth floor, the sign is perfect: “All the men here are tall and handsome.” The women get all excited and are going in when they realize that there is still one floor left. Wondering what they are missing, they head on up to the fifth floor.
There they find a sign that reads: “There are no men here. This floor was built only to prove that there is no way to please a woman.” :rotfl1:

Dear Beautiful You With Guest Em Petrova

Today I thought I’d try something new—a love letter from a mystery hero to all of my wonderful readers, in honor of my new releases My Sexy Valentine and Tattoo Dream. Because you all deserve a little romance in your lives!

Dear Beautiful You,
Today I watched the sun rise over the lip of the world, and when the first golden rays pierced the darkness, I thought of you. Of tilting your delicate chin up with my knuckles, and seeing the luster in your gaze as I slowly brush your hair away from your eyes. My heart pattered as I dreamed of slipping my fingers around the column of your throat and discovering the hollow at the nape of your neck—an uncharted territory, a path I need to kiss.

Today I will strive to prove my love in all ways. By driving through the dim dawn to park outside your house and watch the sun light your window, locking you behind a sheet of pure gold. By climbing the front steps in a fog of cold air to lay a single rose before your door, knowing when you open it, you’ll see the tender petals that represent my adoration.

Today I must make myself worthy of your glowing presence and your smiles that bloom in my heart. If ever a person dares to hurt you or crush your spirit, I will unsheathe my sword and hurl myself into battle for you, squashing everyone in your name.

Today I will think of a million methods to make love to you. By tracing hearts upon your spine as I kiss you long and deep. By feeding my love words past your lips one by one, each declaration more impassioned and true.  By spreading you upon a silken sheet and worshipping every inch of your flesh, proving to you that you are the only woman alive for me.

Today I promise to love you more than yesterday.

Today and always, I am,
Your devoted lover

Depressed, dejected, and dreading the lonely Valentine’s Day she’ll face, her parents suggest she spend a month in her favorite city, Paris, and reconnect with herself. After days alone in her little flat, wearing her useless veil and garter, and eating box after box of conversation hearts, she sinks further into her hopeless state.
When her long-time Parisian friend and his buddies participate in a bizarre sex ritual in honor of St. Valentine, she’s pulled into their muscular arms, and pleasured out of her bridal adornments. Given power over the testosterone-filled room, she learns the real meaning of a happy Valentine’s Day.

Blog Hoppin' It Around! (8)

Book Blogger Hop

IF YOU ARE A NEW FOLLOWER PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
I WILL RETURN THE FAVOR!

This is my eighth blog hop hosted by Crazy-For-Books.com and Parajunkee's View Join in on the fun or click here to visit book bloggers to meet new friends, discover great books and just have some fun!
So here is the question from Crazy - For - Books:

"What book are you most looking forward to seeing published in 2011?  Why are you anticipating that book?"

There are three books that I am really looking forward to. The first being Charlaine Harris's next Sookie, Dead Reckoning, which is being released in May. The second book I can't wait for is the next installment of the Night Huntress Series, This Side Of The Grave coming out on Feb. 22nd. And my final book I've been on pins and needles about just released, Nalini Singh's Archangel's Consort. All three are must haves for me because each author has created that perfect world with characters that reach out of the page and take you on a ride that you can't help but want more of. These authors are addictive!

This weeks question from Parajunkee's:

What is/was your favorite subject in school?

I loved math. Now, I never said I was any good at it, only that I loved it. Alas, I have given up all hope of being the next Eisenstein and I am now working on my love for all things written. I am kicking myself for not paying closer attention in language!

Please don't forget to leave a comment for Em's giveaway above and if you scroll down you can read my review for The Willow by Stacey Kennedy. Have a fabulous weekend!
Until Next time...Happy Reading!

Giveaways, Writer-y Stuff, and a Concept

I can't remember when I read this on Facebook, but a time ago, I a friend of mine posted a concept that I consider well thought out. In the events of the past few days this concept had come into play and I feel stronger and better for exercising my right to be happy. While you have little control over the people you meet, you do have control over the people that you work with and that have any kind of influence over you. This is what I read...

"There comes a time in life when you walk away from all the pointless drama and the people who create it, and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard that you forget the bad and focus on the good. Life is too short to be anything but happy."

While I am not the original author of the above quote,( I copied from Leanne Gagnon's post) I am posting here just to share with you something that might help put a couple of aspects of your day into focus...

Now that I am in my happy spot, I wanted to also share with you on an author visit and giveaway. But first I thought I would dish on the reviews and writer-y stuff that I have coming up. :-)

I just finished reading a book by Jennifer Saints, aka Jennifer St. Giles, that knocked my socks off with the everything from the plot the the delicious romance. I'll have my review for Wild Irish, book one of the Weldon series up by Saturday for ya to enjoy. Later this evening I'll be digging into the second book of the Weldon Series, Smooth Irish and that review will be up by the 4th of February. I also just received a little treat from author Em Petrova, Tattoo Dreams(more on that in a minute) and I'll have that review up by the end of the weekend!

While I have more reviews in the line-up, there is one book I have yet to share. Love Immortal by Felicity Heaton is begging for me to pick it up and not come up until I reach THE END. The blurb is such a teaser and since I am very familiar with her writing style I know the book will be an exciting read. Have any of you read it yet? If you have, what did you think?

Now for the writer-y stuff...

In between all the reviews, and since I am a writer in training, I've signed up for a few writing workshops to frankly get my arse into gear. I have been slacking in the writing area and that has become unacceptable. I know quite a few of reviewers that are trying their hardest to join the league of published author so I thought I would pass on a nifty place I found of the past week. And since I might be the last in the class to get on the band wagon here you probably already know the place, but I'm gonna share it anyway!:-)

On Monday I stumbled upon Savvy Authors and in doing so, I discovered all the cool, useful, and downright awesome workshops they have for anyone that wants to know the in's and out's of the writing world. It is a membership site, but you are not obligated to join to have  use of the workshops, however you do get a better price for many of them if you are a member.

As any knowledge starved writer that is trying to get their bearings straight, I devoured all the workshops they have up for offer for 2011. I have signed up for so many, I don't know how I am going to schedule them all in, but I will!!! Tomorrow is the first class, A Primer For Beginning Authors and on the 31st I start another class Showing versus Telling - How To Use Both .

Now that I have rattled your ear off, :-), let's talk about the giveaway! Em Petrova will be stopping in tomorrow to talk with us and she has agreed to offer a cool giveaway! SO, please don't forget to stop by and show so love!

And if your wondering why Wonder Woman is gracing this blog today, it's because I need her in my corner today. I have some arse to kick today and damn it, I need to channel my own inner Wonder Woman!

So what are you up to? Let's dish! Share what you are reading, want to read, what would love to devour in one sitting (for me, Nalini Singh's new book, Archangel's Consort)

Until Next Time...HAPPY READING!

When the fate seeks her out, she never expected it to lead to the Otherworld. A place filled with werewolves, vampires, witches and the guardians that police over them all. Determined to try and find where she belongs, Nexi comes to understand her place in this new world while battling her past demons that are out to kill her.

SUMMARY: (blurb taken from author's site)
A past of secrets, a life broken by death―awakens to a world of promise and love, but lurking danger threatens to destroy it all.
In Carson City, Nevada a tragic car accident has claimed the lives of Nexi Jones’ adoptive parents. Now, without them, her reason to live has vanished and she is determined to end her pain.
The problem with that, it’s not heaven she wakes up to, it’s the Otherworld. Nexi must reconcile the truth about her past, and her heritage as part guardian/part witch, while she begins to train to join the Council’s guard. But it’s not the combat training that has her worried, its attempting to keep her cool around the luscious guardian, Kyden that’s her biggest concern.
Before long, Nexi’s skills are put to the test as she begins to fight against the supernatural who have taken a human life. But nothing can prepare her for the journey ahead. Soon, she will find herself lost in a mystery and fighting to keep all she’s gained, as Lazarus, a vampire, threatens to take it all away.
Read the Excerpt

FIRST LINE:
A bird singing in the distance stirred me from my sleep. My eyes fluttered open to a perfect warm summer evening in Carson City, Nevada.

FAVORITE LINE:
Shock, stunned, astonished-nothing could properly describe how I felt seeing him soar through the air. I'm friggin' Wonder Woman!

PLOT:
fascinating, action packed joy ride that just didn't end from one cover to the next. I was deliciously surprised with the way this book grabbed my attention, making me want more after I had already spent over three hours of non-stop reading. From page one, the author hooked me with the dark figure lingering over Nexi as she slowly slipped away beneath her beloved willow tree. Then she surprises me with throwing her straight into the mix of the Otherworld that is filled with sexy guardians and powerful witches of which Nexi learns she is apart of. The emotions are high in The Willow. I rarely get emotional over a book, but the pain Nexi suffers hit home with me on certain levels, while also touching me with the acceptance, love and connection to life she found in her new home. Throw in magic, ferocious werewolves, a lethal vampire and a fight of a life time and you have one great action packed paranormal romance.
As for the romance, while the novel was not an erotica romance, there was plenty of sensual moments that lead up to some steamy love scenes!

SETTING:
Nexi's story starts out in the mundane Carson City, Nevada then quickly moves to the Otherworld. A world where the paranormal live, but are not restrained to. A world filled with magic, werewolves, and vampires, oh my!

WRITING:
Ms. Kennedy writes a great first person point of view. She has a unique fast passed writing style that doesn't allow the reader a minute of dullness. Each sentence that is weaved together is packed with either emotion, tension, or action or all three. She delivers a story that isn't weighed down with pages of details, rather she shows the story through dialogue and the characters actions and reactions. She is definitely an author paranormal readers should keep their eye on! I am so glad I got the chance to discover her work.

CHARACTERS:
Nexi didn't turn out like I thought she would. Being that she takes her own life in the Earthworld at the beginning of the book, I thought she would be more withdrawn and have a darker persona. Not true. She was one witty, humorous chick. She also had a knack for saying exactly what she has on her mind which put her in the hot seat a time or two. When you add her genuine yet stubborn not-gonna-take-lip character and mix it with Kyden, a devilishly sexy  guardian that is a tad bit possessive of her, you get some hot love scenes and some heated disagreements.
The author took Nexi from spiraling downwards with only death at the end oh her road, to giving her a purpose and something to fight for. I enjoyed being with her and following her inner growth, seeing how she sorted out her past hurts and pains and used them to grow as a better person. With this growth came the realization that she still had a long ways to go, but that she was not alone in her journey. A good moment for Nexi indeed.
I loved how sensual Kyden was towards Nexi. With a sultry smile and a gentle caress, Nexi liked him just as much too! I could have knocked him on the head a few times for the controlling possesive nature he tended to use on Nexi, but I didn't have to worry to much. She was quiet able to handle him on her own.
I look forward to following their relationship and reading how Nexi continues in her new role in the next installment of The Magical Sword series, The Wicked.

LAST THOUGHTS:
I am so glad there are more books in the Magical Series. I am a new fan of Stacey Kennedy's and I can't wait to pick up her next book. She writes a unique paranormal romance that shouldn't be missed!

WHO IS AUTHOR STACEY KENNEDY:
I love the paranormal romance/urban fantasy genre and love a series more!! Nothing can hook me in more than an adventure and one that keeps on going. I love a page turner, one where I’m up at a ridiculous time and my eyes burn because I can’t stop reading. Witty characters, dominant men, danger, action, romance and hot sex―oh my!
My novels are lighthearted fantasy, heart squeezing, thigh-clenching romance, and even give a good chuckle every now and again.  I’m not a planner.  I don’t write with a set idea because no matter what I plan, the characters’ voices always come through and demand I listen to them. So, I gave up trying to fight it!

Book Review: Perfect Score by Susan Roebuck

THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN FOR: NIGHT OWL REVIEWS
Perfect Score by Susan Roebuck

CATEGORY: Literature / Gay Romance
ISBN:978-1-60928-246-6
PUBLISHER: Awe-Struck Publishing
LENGTH: 176 pages in PDF format
PRICEAwe-Struck Publishing $4.99 (various formats available)

SUMMARY: ( blurb taken from the publishers site)
Feckless, exasperating Alex Finch is a rich, handsome and talented singer/songwriter who longs for two things: a career as a professional rock singer, and to have his love for Sam Barrowdale reciprocated. But drifter Sam's two aims are simply to earn enough money to pay his sister's medical bills and to hide from the world his reading/writing and speech disability. At this time the word "dyslexia" is generally unknown so to most people he's just a "retard". From the severe knocks life's dealt him, Sam's developed a tough outer coating and he has no time for a spoilt, selfish guitar player.
Despite his defects, Alex's love for Sam never wavers and when Sam unexpectedly disappears, Alex begins a somewhat bungling quest to find him, only to discover that Sam has a fearful enemy: Alex's powerful and influential yet sociopathic uncle.
As Alex spirals downwards towards alcoholism, many questions need answering. Just why did Alex's evil uncle adopt him at age eleven yet deny him any affection? And what's the mystery behind Alex's father's death?
Both seem to face unbeatable odds. Are they doomed to follow separate paths forever?

FIRST LINE:
Justice for all God's Children. My uncle had been in a good mood but reverted to type when he spotted the poster.

PLOT:
I have to be honest I did not know what to expect from the author when she requested a review. I did not know of her or her work and the book blurb pointed out that her book was far from the genre I normally read. I am so glad I stepped outside my little cocoon of 'safe' reading.
From the first page of Perfect Score I was transported into a time and place lost to the younger generations, a time and place I can only understand through reminiscent stories of the older generation. Alex's and Sam's story takes place in the late 60's when the understanding of dyslexia and acceptance of homosexuality were taboos never to be spoken of in many households. The author did a wonderful job bringing both topics to light while not chocking the reader on her view point. Which was very refreshing might I add. The plot is riddled with many obstacles for both Sam and Alex to overcome and by the end of the book all the plot threads and story questions were answered, leaving the story on a satisfactory note.
Ms. Roebuck wrote a story true to its time period with a plot full of intrigue and real life emotions and drama. Their story reminds me just how reserved and confined society was and just how far we have grown in the last half century. A very thought provoking story. I'll leave the plot twists to you to discover, but I'll say this...who needs enemies when you have an uncle like Alex's!

SETTING:
Perfect Score began in 1963 when Sam and Alex first met as young men in the city of Verdigris. Then it progresses to 1968 when Sam and Alex met up again on The Pike Ranch. The author lavished the settings with just the right amount of detail so that I could visualize the surroundings and how life was on a ranch in the 1960's.

WRITING:
The lingo the author used for the time period was a small set back for me. Not being from the time period, it was hard to understand Alex's choice of words to express himself. I thought the author's writing style unique and strong. I did find it interesting how the author delivered her story in rotating view points. Which is something I normally don't like in my reading. However, it did allowed me to experience the story from both mind sets, giving me a deeper view to the author's theme. Like I said, this book broke all my reading rules, showing me there is more out there to enjoy and that discovering new authors is like finding a new flavor of chocolate to add to my stash!

CHARACTERS:
While I might have had a hard time understanding his lingo, Alex was a complete attention grabber for me. I loved when the view point changed to his because the author allowed him so much room to show the world who he really was at heart, if only in his thoughts at times. I do admit to having a hard time understanding him at first, but I gradually saw his angle on life as the story progressed. It was interesting to follow how he fell in love with Sam. It didn't quiet satisfy my tastes for a romance book but then again this book isn't really a romance read.
Sam  surprised me by the depth of perception he had towards life. While he suffered my the lack of the ability to read and write and suffered from dyslexia, he had a strong hold on the things going on around him. He held a deep love to help those around him and a kind heart even when faced with all the obstacles thrown at him in life. Growing up on the streets after his mother died and being bullied for his disabilities served to make him stronger as an adult, whereas it could have made him into the twisted man of an uncle Alex grew up with. I thought that a very positive twist on Sam's character, one I enjoyed very much.

LAST THOUGHTS:
When I finished reading Perfect Score I felt like I had caught a glimpse as if through a window in time of what life was like in the 60's for people like Sam and Alex. I am glad I took a chance on Ms. Roebuck's Perfect Score. She took two very difficult topics, threw in a deeper topic of which you will read about with Alex's uncle and delivered a unique yet very good story.
