Today's feature reading will be from the novella paranormal romance Snow's Heat by Nicole Hicks. I discovered this book via my feed on Facebook and fell in love with the vivid cover. I then searched up the book on Smashwords and Amazon to read the blurb and more on the author. I liked the opening to the book and the author's sense of humor that's sprinkled within the first couple of pages. I can't wait to dig in and finish the book to discover how Bree comes to her happy ending. As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this weeks book choice. You can find all the author and book info below the video...ENJOY!!

Q. Ack! Your favorite book/movie character(example Hermione Granger played by the Emma chick) Just walked into the room! Who is it and what would be your first reaction? You get extra points if you include visual stimulation.
First, the visuals :-)
A. Now the answer...Alcide from the Sookie Stackhouse series! I think all shifters should look like him! He holds the alpha vibe very well and brings to life his character with plenty of attitude to spare. he was perfect for his part and I must say very EASY ;-) on the eyes!
How about you?

SUMMARY:(taken from author's site)
Romance can be a hairy business-especially when you’re a werewolf.
As the owner of Got a Mate Dating Service, Rylie is more than happy to step in and lend a hand to lonely lycanthropic hearts all over town. No matter how hopeless Rylie might be in finding her own soul mate, she has a knack for helping others find theirs.
Convinced that she is stuck with a family curse, Rylie is positive she will never find her true love. But when drool-worthy Jack Chandler shows up at her door, Rylie wonders if maybe the curse is finally broken.
But Rylie’s life is about to become complicated courtesy of the after-dark crowd. When she begins receiving strange notes and harassment from a jilted client, events careen out of control.
Jack knows she’s more hassle than he can handle. What he doesn’t know is whether she’s seriously in trouble . . . or simply delusional.
FAVORITE LINE:
“What do you mean? What kind of woman do you think I am, anyway? He‟s not seeing what‟s underneath. Not this soon.”
TEASER:
"Speaking of our office settings, you know, actually, we have a great mixture of services that are all related on that little stretch of street. That's what makes it such a great location." I took another bit of my food. Sadly my plate was almost clean.
"What do you mean?"
"People come to me first to find a date, of course. Then when the date doesn't work out they travel to the voodoo shop next door for a doll to seek revenge or something. When that inevitably backfires they finally realize the need a therapist and make their way to you."
Jack was getting a glimpse of my dysfunctional family in all its glory. If he didn‟t run away from the werewolf thing, surely he would when he met my parents. They were hard to hide. He'd find out how wacky they were eventually.
PLOT:
How To Date A Werewolf was a very quirky and fun romp with several twists that had me laughing out loud numerous times throughout the book. The Werewolf dating tips at the beginning of each chapter were a nice detail that added good humor and character insight to Rylie's mind. I think the author did a good job of providing a balance of humor and mystery while throwing in a small amount of romance. I enjoyed seeing Rylie's world through her eyes and her innate ability to always find the silver lining to all situations. A lesson I can take away from this book for sure. Whether it be her 'unfortunate' condition of being a werewolf that has her stocking her purse with razors and shaving cream or burly werewolves that try to kidnap her. The plot was at most times easy to follow and kept me well entertained even if predictable late into the night after all had gone to bed.
At times I found a few inconsistencies with the story causing me to reread certain areas to make sure I understood what was going on. But the story was compelling enough that I continued reading. The first half of the book I found the pacing a bit slow because of the author's tendency to be repetitive. Though, the second half the story smoothed out, picking up pace and carrying on with a very enjoyable tale of a werewolf adventure. I have to say Ms. Pressey's werewolf did take a little bit of time to get use to. At first I really didn't understand how exactly the werewolves shifted, whether they stayed in human form or completely changed over to a wolf form. Her world building is a bit different to any other werewolf book I've read and if you don't mind a story that deviates from the norm in shifter romance you will no doubt like this book. The author did a good job of tying up the stories questions by the end and provided an entertaining story I could enjoy with a great opening to her next book, How To Date A Vampire.
SETTING:
Rylie's world is set in the Big Easy complete with ghost tours and voodoo priestess that can see things most never know exist.
WRITING:
Although the story was an enjoyable one, I felt the author's writing style a bit unpolished. While Ms. Pressey writes with good detail and offers great description of the story's settings, I got hung up on the choppy sentences and phrasing at times. Though I do have faith that with a bit of time and practice this author will perfect her craft and become a well sought out writer for the paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres.
CHARACTERS:
Rylie Cruz carried a certain level of energy that seeped right of the pages and into me as I read the story through her point of view. She is a bit quirky to say the least but what werewolf isn't, right! I liked her ability to look for the good in all but at the same time she wasn't afraid to get dirty and go for a good werewolf brawl in the back alley if the situation called for it. And it did....several times in fact. The one and only thing she was pessimistic about was the family curse bestowed up on her ancestor by a 'crazy gypsy lady'. The hero of the story, Jack Chandler, was a bit to perfect for my taste. While he is described as being very handsome I would have liked to see a bit more depth to his character as far as flaws go. He was however a very good match for Rylie and her craziness at times; a bit of a counter wait. Hopefully the author has more in store for his character in the next book. The other main character in the story is Rylie's best friend, Jennifer. I could not get along with her much. She acted more childish and dimwitted rather than the responsible adult I expected. Setting her 'character flaws' aside, she is a good friend to Rylie which is what counts in the end.
LAST THOUGHTS:
Although the story had a few flaws and a best friend I couldn't quite grasp, I did enjoy the story. The author created a unique world for her werewolves and delivered a book that entertained me for a few hours and that is what a readers looks for. This is my first book from Rose Pressey and I will definitely be on the lookout for her next book in her Rylie Cruz Series.

This weeks question for Parajunkee's:
Q. In light of the Summer Solstice, also known as midsummer...let's talk about fairies. What is your favorite fairy tale story that revolves around the fae.
A. I had to take all night to come up with my answer to this one. I thought about all kinds of books that I have read with the fae in it but settled on one fairy tale that always entertained me...The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales. As a young adult I read all I could on the two brothers and loved them. Quirky and a little dark at times but I loved them. I think it is what eventually lead me to love paranormal romance and urban fantasy. As for a more recent set of books, I can't think of one. Terrible I know, but I read more contemporary, shifter and vampires romance than anything else at the moment that do not have the fae.Ooh wait, I take that back, I just picked up the most recent Sookie Stackhouse novel and I love the fae in that series.
