Back of the Book
Travel writer Julia Sullivan lives life in fast-forward. She jet sets to Europe and the Caribbean with barely a moment to blink or sleep. But too many mishaps and missed deadlines have Julia on the verge of being fired.
With a stern warning, and unemployment looming, she's offered one last chance to rescue her career. Julia embarks on an unlikely journey to the ‘Heart of Dixie’—Eufaula, Alabama—home to magnificent mansions, sweet tea, and the annual Pilgrimage.
Julia arrives, soon charmed by the lovely city and her handsome host, but her stay is marred by a shocking discovery. Can Julia's story save her career, Eufaula, and the annual Pilgrimage?

While I adore the budding Magnolia trees, blooming pink azaleas, and fragrant Honeysuckle blossoms of the Deep South, life here is even more sweet because of the region's amazing history and historic landmarks.

Dancing Naked in Dixie highlights just one of those locations -- a city full of gorgeous antebellum mansions, friendly people, and delicious home-cooked food. Below the Mason Dixon line, here are my Top Ten Places to Visit in the South and why:

1. Selma/Montgomery, Alabama - Birthplace of the Civil Rights Movement

2. Oxford, Mississippi - Home of 'Square Books' (awesome indie bookstore) and Ole Miss (University of Mississippi), and the former home of Authors John Grisham and Willie Morris (My Dog Skip).

3. Macon, Georgia - Setting of Lauren Clark's Stay Tuned and home of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, featuring The Allman Brothers Band, Otis Redding, Little Richard, Mike Mills and Bill Berry of R.E.M., as well as country music's Jason Aldean.

4. Savannah, Georgia - Walk the squares of Savannah, Georgia and admire the exquisite architecture of the grand mansions. Setting for Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

5. Charleston, South Carolina - Lowcountry mansions, plantations, gardens, & Fort Sumter

6. Birmingham/Tuscaloosa - Sixteenth Street Baptist Church - a major staging ground for the freedom marches of April-May 1963 and site of the September 15, 1963 bombing that killed four little girls.

7. Monroeville, Alabama - Home of Truman Capote, Mark Childress, Harper Lee and To Kill a Mockingbird.

8. Atlanta, Georgia - Stone Mountain, Underground Atlanta, Margaret Mitchell House (Gone With the Wind author's home), and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

9. (Two-way tie) The French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana and The Light Houses of the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

10. Eufaula, Alabama - Home of the annual Pilgrimage, Christmas Tour of Homes, and the setting for Lauren Clark's Dancing Naked in Dixie

Of course, there are many lovely and special places to visit in the Deep South! How about sharing your favorite Southern locations to visit and why?
