It’s wonderful to be here again at Bookin’ It Reviews for the next stop on the book tour for my new vampire romance, Masquerade. Masquerade is the tenth book in my ongoing Vampires Realm romance series. Don’t worry if you haven’t read the others, as Masquerade does stand alone.
Today, I’m going to be interviewing the heroine of Masquerade. Sophis is a guard with the Venia bloodline in the series. She’s under one hundred years old, but she’s still strong and she’s very determined to protect her family and prove herself as a worthy member of the guard. I managed to catch up with her a few months after her love story had ended.
FH: I have Sophis here with me today to talk about her book, Masquerade. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?
SOPHIS: I am a guard of my bloodline, the Venia, and have been for years now. I love serving my family and keeping them safe. My sire would have preferred I took him up on his offer to travel around Europe with him, and sometimes I wish I had chosen that path rather than entering the guard. It’s difficult. It isn’t just that vampires can be antiquated and most tend to think females shouldn’t be part of the guard. It’s that some vampires get it into their thick heads to make it their mission to get you kicked out. *growls* I think it will be decades before I truly forgive him for that. Where was I? The guard is everything to me. Well, almost.
FH: I take it the growl was for a certain male and the hero of your story. You’ve known Vivek for years now, and your relationship has clearly been a rocky one, but how did you meet and how did you feel about him initially?
SOPHIS: I met Vivek a long time ago, on my first day in training. In fact, he was responsible for a lot of my training and acted more like a mentor than a superior. I grew very close to Vivek back then and I honestly felt as though the feelings I developed for him were ones that he shared, but then everything fell apart a decade ago and I thought I had lost him forever.
FH: That event you talk of a decade ago complicated your relationship with Vivek. Can you tell us more about that event, if you feel up to speaking about it?
SOPHIS: *sighs* I don’t mind talking about it. We were on patrol together in the city, Saint Petersburg, and came across two vampire hunters. The twins. Aleksis and Izabella Romanov. We thought we had everything under control but then things went horribly wrong and... well...
FH: You don’t have to tell us if it’s too much.
SOPHIS: No, I can talk about it. It all happened so quickly. I ended up with Aleksis’s dagger in my stomach. I’m a young vampire and the wound was deep. Vivek came to my aid and held me as I bled, feeling my life drain away. I was so afraid, but his presence gave me strength. I can’t remember much else about it, but I learned later that the hunters attacked him too and managed to stake him in the back. When I recovered, I felt terrible about what had happened. Vivek had almost died because of me. I had almost lost him... in the end, it turns out that I did lose him. Whatever spark we had shared had died and over the next ten years, we drifted apart.
FH: In no small part thanks to Vivek. He didn’t exactly help matters with his behaviour. It must have frustrated you, and we can see just how much at the beginning of your story.
SOPHIS: Yes, Vivek did his best to drive a wedge between us but now I understand why he did what he did and I have forgiven him. It’s hard to say that he had my best interests at heart, but he was looking out for me in his own way. I’m only glad that everything that happened in our story put us back on the right path and we’re together now at last.
FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?
SOPHIS: Very busy. A lot of things happened that have led to major changes in my life but I am still in the guard with Vivek, and still give him hell on our nightly patrols. He trains with me again now, encouraging me to grow stronger, and does his best to make me forget the past ten years. Sometimes I can. Sometimes it’s easy to forget our time apart, especially when we spar and things get a little heated. It’s hard to ignore how good he looks in just his sweatpants.
FH: I can imagine. Especially with those sexy tattoos of his on show. Your story, Masquerade, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?
SOPHIS: I believe it’s the tenth story in the Vampires Realm series, which follows my bloodline and the other six pure ones that reside in Europe. I believe I met some of the heroes and heroines of previous books in my own love story. I have to say it was both exciting and frightening to meet so many incredibly powerful vampires. I had never been in the company of the lords and ladies of the other bloodlines before. Their power is overwhelming, especially Lord Hyperion of the Validus bloodline. I could scarcely breathe around him. He’s very seductive too. Vivek confessed to me recently that he was ready to fight him when he saw me with him. I’m glad he didn’t. I think Vivek is too. Lord Hyperion is over three thousand years old. I love Vivek, and he’s strong, but not that strong. As for myself and Vivek, I’m sure that readers will be seeing more of us in future stories. Tynan has mentioned that you’re yet to write his story, which means you must be coming back to the Venia bloodline. You can see all the differences for yourself, and we can catch up.
FH: Describe yourself in one word?
FH: Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?
SOPHIS: Thank you for interviewing me. I can’t wait to see Vivek’s replies to these questions. I hope you’ll be wearing a steel collar when you interview him because he can get tetchy about his behaviour and I don’t want him to bite you.
FH: Oh, I’ll be wearing full body armour when I ask him... and I will ask him!

F E Heaton
Ten years have passed since Sophis and Vivek, two vampires of the Venia bloodline, came close to death at the hands of twin hunters Aleksis and Izabella Romanov. The events of that night turned Sophis and Vivek against each other, shattering their close friendship and driving them apart.
Now, on the eve of a centenary Creator Day masquerade and at a time when things between them are dangerously close to separating them forever, they uncover a small army of vampire hunters in Saint Petersburg, led by their nemeses, Aleksis and Izabella.
With the safety of the rulers of the seven pure vampire bloodlines in their hands and their chance for vengeance hanging in the balance, can Sophis and Vivek face their past and overcome their differences? Will they realise their true feelings for each other before it’s too late or will the hunters finally claim their lives as their deadly plot to destroy the bloodlines unfolds?
