Back of the Book:
Gwen Sparks just wants to live a peaceful life in the supernatural town of Flora, but from the moment she read about the first murdered witch, all hope of peace was abandoned. Possessing the rare ability to read the memories of dead, she volunteers to help catch the culprit behind the string of drained witches. Gwen has to team up with the one man who broke her heart, deal with a ghost who pulls her into the deathly realm at will, and a fight off the advances of sexy but frustrating vampire who not only craves what runs through her veins—he wants her heart.
I was in the process of straightening a row of colorful vials and had been seriously slacking on cleaning my shop. I decided today was as good as any to start. I dusted in between all the potions and was now making sure they were lined up like well-behaved soldiers.
“You and Fiona were marked,” he said. I looked at my hand and at Fiona’s; they both had a stamp of an eye on them. Micah’s hand had no stamp and neither did Aiden’s.
“Marked for what?” I asked, although I had an idea.
“Because you guys are witches, I’m guessing they’re marking you for capture.” Chills broke out along my skin at the memory of the way the bouncer and every other vampire had watched me with more interest than necessary. Fiona and I had been marked like cattle and now we were in the belly of the slaughterhouse.
Plot & Character:
A creative and entertaining plot with a few hair raising twists to keep you up late at night!
I loved how Ms. Nelson kept proving me wrong throughout the entire story. I'd finish one chapter and think I had everything figured out only to find yet another twist prove me wrong. There were many laugh-out-loud moments followed up by shocking developments that made you think this author really knows how to bring to life a well plotted out story.
Gwen Spark, a proven witch with a powerful gift of reading the dead’s last moments, finds herself pulled between helping the supernatural police of Flora solve why witches are being murdered for their blood and safe guarding her heart from the sexy vampire dying for her attention. Suffering from a devastatingly harsh breakup only months earlier, Gwen is hesitant in opening herself to possibly having her heart shredded once again. Matters of the heart only deepen when she discovers she’ll have to work with the werewolf that damaged her heart to help bring a murderer to justice.
Ms. Nelson wrote a wonderful story filled with great characters. Through her characters I found a deep meaning of what caring for others really means. I also appreciated how the author showed how to not be selfish through action instead of pure talk. The heroine, though shunned as a teenager for something out of her control, could not do the same to others though she had several opportunities to show an ugly side.
As the story wrapped up I was blown away with the connections Gwen had made and the new understanding of how she felt about the new vampire in her love life. The developments she also made with her magical power also changed over the course of the story leaving us with a small cliffhanger of what is to come for her in the next installment in the Gwen Sparks series.
Though the plot was strong, entertaining and conveyed a strong central theme, I found the editing was of a poorer quality. There are instances of names being mixed up and misspelled words. I also found instances of added words that were not edited out after deciding to go with another word.
Having said that, I've already started the second book in the Gwen Spark's series and notice that the grammar and editing are of better quality. Also, Ms. Nelson’s writing style is very descriptive, bringing to life a creative and unique world for paranormal romance readers to enjoy.
Craved is a story I'm glad I had the chance to read. Ms. Nelson has created a very entertaining world to dive into and I've already started the second in the series. I will definitely keep this author in my sights and check out her future releases.
