to the blog!
Welcome to Bookin’ It Reviews, Sky!
What a fantastic blog! Thanks so much for featuring
me today. I thought I’d chat a little about the inspiration behind the first
novel in my Calum’s Curse Trilogy, The
Victorian Lure. Where some authors like to base their stories on places
they’ve been and things they’ve done, I based mine on where I live. You guessed
it; a haunted Victorian. Built in 1901 by my husband’s great-grandfather, this
house has seen a lot. In fact, it’s become known in my town as one of the most
haunted houses in Derry.
I’ve been here eleven years and have had quite a few
paranormal experiences. I suppose that after so many years of activity, I
couldn’t help but want to weave some of it into my books. And, of course, I’ve
dabbled in some paranormal investigating. Yep, label me the proud owner of an
EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) and EVP
(Electro Voice Phenomena) detector. *grins*
For those who have been following me along my Bewitching Book Tour, you’ll remember
that I’ve already started sharing my own true ghost stories at a few blogs.
Today, I’ll be sharing more. What do you think? Up for a good ghost story or
two?
The first tale I’d like to
share happened in 2006. I like this event because it can be validated. Two
people were there. My husband and I (and he’s a skeptic by nature). My son was
two and still in a crib. We’d put him to bed about twenty minutes prior and
were downstairs fixing dinner.
As we stood in front of the oven chatting, we suddenly heard footsteps above. (The kitchen is right beneath his bedroom). At first we thought it must be the cat. Nope. Within a few seconds we heard small feet scampering across the floor again. We looked at the ceiling and frowned. The feet (clearly two small human feet) ran back the other way, as though a child were running around. It happened once more before the two of us high-tailed it upstairs.
We entered the room to find our son sound asleep.
A few weeks later. Christmas Eve…

A few weeks later. Christmas Eve…
I was sitting on the
bottom stair to the foyer late at night admiring the Christmas tree. Pretty
much lost in thought as we writers have a tendency to do. At last, I headed up
to bed. Halfway up the stairs the air cooled considerably. “Someone” passed me
on the staircase. That someone was a man and was whistling away. Yep, I ran for
bed at that point! (I know, I know, he was obviously happy. Still. Creepy.)
Two months later…
Two months later…
I awoke in the middle of
the night. My son was crying so I went into his room. He was standing up in his
crib. I walked over and soothed him as best I could. He still wasn’t speaking
at that point. Regardless, I asked him what was wrong. He raised his arm and
pointed at the far corner of the room. I’ll never forget that moment. Every
hair on my body stood on edge. I’ll bet you’re wondering if I turned and
looked. Yep. But slowly, like a scene from a horror movie. Did I see anything?
No. Do I believe children can see things we can’t? Yes. That particular sort of
event never happened again, thank God.
I hope you enjoyed hearing
a few spooky tales from my Victorian. Be sure to keep following me on my Bewitching Book Tour to hear more!
Best,
Sky

The Georgian Embrace Short Excerpt:
"I'll get answers out of you
eventually, Isabel."
Lord, he was persistent. Give him some hope then continue to whittle away. "I am quite sure you will but not this eve." She gracefully smoothed her skirts, lowered her voice--hid behind her lashes. "I'll not ask again. Share with me, Devin. I would really like to know what disturbs you so."
Devin's low chuckle warmed her insides. "You think to get answers from me by flirting? Good luck, lass. I invented that method."
Isabel's eyes flew to his. Insolence! She almost faltered at the devilish twinkle in his gaze, the languid way his come-hither eyes roamed her face. Indeed, he did flirt well. She squelched the lop-sided grin she felt beginning to erupt. "I see no reason for your secrecy." Isabel again leaned close and whispered in her best co-conspirator tone, "Then you really are a spy."
His thick-lashed eyes fell to her lips and he leaned closer as well. "In my own way, that is exactly what I am."
Now she was getting somewhere. "Ah, I knew it."
"Did you?" His gaze slowly slid down her neck and she'd swear his finger grazed the soft skin. Goose pimples rose on her flesh.
"Yes, I did." She continued to follow his gaze, could almost feel how he saw her...feminine...enticing. "It makes perfect sense."
"Aye." Devin's gaze fell to her cleavage. "You found me out."
A deep inhale, then he exhaled slowly, his hot breath flaming across her chest. Searing warmth flooded below. Isabel inhaled sharply. His eyes met hers, knowing. How did he do that? What exactly had he done without moving an inch?
"What did I find out?" she murmured, her mind swimming in pleasure, relaxed, not nearly as sharp as it had been moments before.
A ravishing grin crinkled the corners of his eyes, made enticing sweeps of his dark eyelashes. "That I'm not quite who I seem to be."
